“ Mist to mist, drops to drops. For water thou art, and unto water shalt thou return. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ You know how it goes: at some point in your life, you fell in love with someone and had a glimpse of God. Then you abandoned life and lover and started celebrating your love for God. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ I urge you to listen. I beg you to pay attention for these are the most important words I will ever pen: Do not succumb to the halflife! To the indifference and apathy of those cool and aloof individuals. Nothing affects them, their lover cries out desperately for affection but they shrug their shoulders—for they are always shrugging— and transcend the messy drama of the human situation. O this transcendental invincibility—I tell you: the shit of the bull! We are not gods. We are human. Even Christ chose immanence so He could feel as the people felt, suffer as they did. You must revel in your neuroses, your sensitivities and sensibilities. Burn your excitable character, do not extinguish this fire. Stay within. Taste the immediacy of living. Be in life with others. Do not yield to the hypocrisy the world demands! Do not succumb to the shadows, to the halflight, to the halflife. We are not gods. Be human. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ You have to be transparent so you no longer cast a shadow but instead let the light pass through you. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ What you choose also chooses you. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ I open my eyes. I want to know: what is in the abyss of a kiss? Are stars born in these black caves that house bated breaths and unspoken words? Do our souls crawl on these tender cheeks to greet one another by ivory gates? What happens when we kiss? Where do you go? Don’t tell me. For I have lost my desire to know. Kiss me so that I forget myself. I close my eyes and fall in the abyss. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ Reading poetry is like undressing before a bath. You don't undress out of fear that your clothes will become wet. You undress because you want the water to touch you. You want to completely immerse yourself in the feeling of the water and to emerge anew. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ For me, you are fresh water that falls from trees when it has stopped raining. For me, you are cinnamon that lingers on the tongue and gives bitter words sweetening. For me, you are the scent of violins and vision of valleys smiling. And still, for me, your loveliness never ends. It traverses the world and finds its way back to me. Only me. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ Poetry isn’t an island, it is the bridge. Poetry isn’t a ship, it is the lifeboat. Poetry isn’t swimming. Poetry is water. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ I wonder if you ever read my poems and wish they were written for you. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ Here's another poem, like all others before and after, dedicated to you. There isn't anything left to be said but I will spend my life trying to put you into words. You who is every goodness, every optimism and hope. Your love is a better fate for me than anything I could wish for. If you are a part of me, then you’re the best part. And if you're separate from me, then you are my destination. But I’ve become a weary traveller, so please, let us never be apart. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ I only wrote prose before I met you. My musings were superfluous and serious as well. But now the words dance with me. I sing with them and we create poetry. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ Mist to mist, drops to drops. For water thou art, and unto water shalt thou return. ”

- Kamand Kojouri

“ They want us to be afraid. They want us to be afraid of leaving our homes. They want us to barricade our doors and hide our children. Their aim is to make us fear life itself! They want us to hate. They want us to hate 'the other'. They want us to practice aggression and perfect antagonism. Their aim is to divide us all! They want us to be inhuman. They want us to throw out our kindness. They want us to bury our love and burn our hope. Their aim is to take all our light! They think their bricked walls will separate us. They think their damned bombs will defeat us. They are so ignorant they don’t understand that my soul and your soul are old friends. They are so ignorant they don’t understand that when they cut you I bleed. They are so ignorant they don’t understand that we will never be afraid, we will never hate and we will never be silent for life is ours! ”

“ You only feel powerless because your fear has given your power to the object of your fear. Once you realise this, you can claim it back. ”

“ God is not dead— She has forsaken us. We wipe our angry, hatefilled tears after another shooting, as a man polishes his gun outside a mosque. All those stolen lives—we scream for justice! But God has quietly left our temples and churches. She will not return, for what WE have done is much worse. We have murdered humanity. God has deserted even the devout of us who save our love and compassion for those good and righteous, as we abandon the bigots brimming with hate. Yes, those least deserving of love, but the most in need of it. God’s agony rings in our hearts. She wails for the future shooters. Though we reject them, God greets these cracked and confused creatures— the least deserving of compassion but the most in need of it! We’ve read their spiteful tweets, but when we pass them in classrooms, in trains and markets, we dismiss those seemingly small opportunities for kindness. We don’t know—and how ignorant we are— that every time we ignore them, we sharpen our daggers and stab humanity in its pink raw flesh, not in dark alleyways. No, we do this openly in broad daylight, for hating them shows how loving we are. For condemning them proves how moral we are. But every shooting illumines the failure of our collective duty to love as God loves, to be compassionate as God is compassionate. Your prayers heal, yes, but for God’s sake, let God be. I say: First, resurrect your humanity! ”
